About the company
Acufinder.com is a leading online resource for everything to do with acupuncture, Chinese herbs, and East Asian medicine. The website provides listings for acupuncturists and acupuncture schools. There is also a learning center with 50+ topics related to acupuncture along with a calendar of events.
About the project
Acufinder.com needed to have the code on the back-end of its website updated because it was using outdated Microsoft Active Server Pages (ASP). The challenge was to make sense of the layers of hard-coded data and bring it up to date using the latest programming languages and technology available so Acufinder.com could better serve its customers and community.
How we worked with the client
Our work for Acufinder.com was led by one manager located in the United States. The project was managed primarily through JIRA with occasional Skype or Google hangout meetings as required.
The Solution
As a preliminary step, Infuy unraveled and made sense of the existing hard-coded ASP data. We then configured the site to use Symfony 2.0 which is a PHP web application framework that includes a set of reusable components and libraries. PHP is a general-purpose scripting language that is especially suited to modern web development. This was done so that Acufinder.com could effectively work with a MySQL database required to capture all the critical data, information, and resources about acupuncture and East Asian medicine for its avid users. Additionally, we integrated the site with Auth.net to accept payments and worked with ExactTarget (now Salesforce Marketing Cloud ) so Acufinder.com could send customized newsletters to each of the practitioners registered with its website.
