Montevideo, Uruguay – 10/18/2024 – Alejandro Narancio, CEO and co-founder of Infuy, a leading blockchain software development company, recently shared his insights on the accelerating convergence of artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain technologies during an international panel discussion. The event focused on the transformative impact of these technologies on businesses and individuals worldwide.
“Artificial intelligence as a concept has existed since the 1950s,” Narancio remarked during the panel. “We all knew it would eventually change our lives, much like the internet did. However, recent advancements have accelerated this transformation beyond our expectations.”
Narancio highlighted key milestones that have propelled AI forward, such as IBM’s Deep Blue defeating chess grandmaster Garry Kasparov, Google’s AlphaGo triumphing over a world champion in the game of Go, and the 2017 publication of the Transformer architecture by Google, which underpins advanced models like GPT-4.
“The speed at which AI is advancing is astonishing,” he stated. “Developments we anticipated would take decades are happening within years. This rapid progression demands that we adapt both personally and professionally.”
Addressing the intersection of AI and blockchain, Narancio emphasized the importance of data integrity and decentralized models. “Blockchain ensures the immutability of data, which is crucial for public, decentralized AI models,” he explained. “By recording proofs that data hasn’t been corrupted on the blockchain, users can trust that AI models remain untampered.”
Narancio shared details about hiss currents personal research projects, including “The Academy”, inspired by Plato’s ancient institution. The project aims to develop a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) governed by AI agents that debate and reach consensus on decisions.
“My goal is to explore how AI and blockchain can collaborate to create more transparent and efficient systems,” Narancio said. “Integrating AI agents within a DAO could revolutionize decision-making processes, and while it’s still in the research phase, the potential is immense.”
He also discussed the challenges of blockchain adoption, particularly regarding usability and security. “Blockchain is inherently based on trustlessness, which makes widespread adoption more complex compared to AI technologies,” Narancio noted. “We need solutions that maintain security without compromising user experience. Account abstraction, for instance, is an area we’re focusing on to make blockchain more accessible while preserving its core security principles.”
Narancio advised individuals and organizations to critically assess how they integrate AI into their operations. “We need to consciously decide which skills we’re willing to delegate to AI and which we should retain,” he advised. “For example, I don’t mind using ChatGPT to draft emails, but when it comes to auditing smart contracts, that’s a responsibility I keep.”
